This year’s festival expands its educational programming with a full slate of workshops running throughout both Friday and Saturday, offering rare access to industry professionals with decades of experience in Hollywood film and television.

How To Shoot Better Films for
Next-To-No Budget

FRIDAY APRIL 24 

FREE + open to the public!

9:00 AM FRIDAY - Early on Friday, Faculty members from the University of Idaho Film and Television program will present a workshop titled “How To Make Better Music Videos with Next-To-No Budget” where you’ll learn some quick and helpful tips to increase your production value with items you can find around the house.

Outdoor Gaff + Gear w/ Michael Notar 

FREE with Film pass or $5 at the door

12:30 PM FRIDAY - Spokane-based photographer and cinematographer Michael Notar, owner of Shutterworks Rentals Spokane, will bring down professional lighting equipment for “Outdoor Gaff + Gear”.

Seven Hacks to Improve Your Storytelling
w/ Jeffery Townsend 

Free with film pass or $5 at the door

3:30 PM FRIDAY - A major highlight of the festival is a storytelling masterclass led by Jeffrey Townsend, an Emmy-winning writer, LAMMV Award-winning songwriter, and longtime Hollywood creative who collaborated with Matt Groening on The Simpsons. Drawing from a lifetime of experience developing stories across mediums, Townsend will share “Seven Hacks to Improve Your Storytelling,” offering practical, insider tools for writers and filmmakers looking to elevate their work at 3:30 Friday, April 24th at 1912 Center.

Coffee Convo: Creative Producing with Daniel Bekerman

FREE + OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

9:30 AM SATURDAY - On Saturday morning, the festival will host a special “KINO Coffee Convo” with acclaimed independent producer Daniel Bekerman at 9:30 AM at the 1912 Center (Community Family Living Room).

Bekerman, known for producing The Witch, Ready or Not, and The Apprentice, will discuss his journey through the film industry, the challenges he has faced, and offer candid advice to emerging filmmakers navigating an ever-changing production landscape. This free event provides a rare opportunity for direct engagement with a leading voice in independent cinema.

Lighting for Story with Ian Christenberry

FREE with Film pass or $5 at the door

12:30 PM SATURDAY - Cinematographer and lighting expert Ian Christenberry, an alumnus of the American Film Institute’s prestigious MFA program, will lead a workshop on “Lighting for Story” Saturday April 25th at 12:30 at the RTV Center. Christenberry’s extensive credits include work as a lighting technician on major productions such as Star Trek, Entourage, Wayne’s World, and The Dark Tower. His session will focus on how lighting shapes emotion, tone, and narrative—bridging technical craft with visual storytelling.
